INFO ON NEW MEETING PLACE

After many twists and turns, "trying out" many spaces for worship, including the Oregon Historical Society, several established Friends’ facilities (meetinghouses and churches), we have finally settled on the First United Methodist Church in the Goose Hollow neighborhood of Portland as our temporary home. Our meeting times have also changed to Sunday evenings. Worship starts at 4:30 PM and goes until approx. 5:45 PM. We meet in the chapel, accessable off the parking lot in the rear of the church. We will be meeting in this location for both worship and business for about a year while we search for a more permanent home. This change was occasioned by the unexpected closure of our previous meeting space, The Portland French School. The address of First United Methodist Church is below, along with a link to a map.

On both July 31, 2011 and August 14, 2011 BCFM will meet a space that we are "trying out" as a new temporary worship space while we continue to search for a more permanent home, the Oregon Historical Society. The community space we have been using for Meeting for Worship at Oswego Summit [the clubhouse of Oswego Summit Condos, 215 Oswego Summit, Lake Oswego 97035] is not available to us on Sunday, June 26th, and again on Sunday, August 7th.
BCFM's Ministry and Oversight Committee has considered several options and alternative sites for these two Sundays. Rather than scheduling a BCFM Meeting for Worship at an alternate space on 6/26 and 8/7, we encourage you to visit other Friends' worshipping communities on these two occasions, bringing greetings from BCFM. I'm sure you have heard by now that BCFM has to move from Portland French
School at the end of this month. At Business Meeting last Sunday, the
Meeting decided that the our temporary home will be the community room at
Oswego Summit, 215 Oswego Summit, Lake Oswego. [ MAP ] <<== click for map
At that Meeting, the Ministry & Oversight Committee was asked to organize
our move from Portland French School at the end of the month. We just
wanted to reassure Friends, especially Friends who were not at Meeting for
Business, that a plan is in place for the packing up, moving and storage
of our belongings, as well as informing Friends of this change in
location. I won't bore you with the details, but if you are willing, able
and attending Meeting for Worship on the 29th, you might set aside an hour
or so after Meeting to help out with moving our belongings into storage.
Our last Meeting for Worship at Portland French School will be May 29. On
June 5, 2011, at 10 a.m., we will meet in the community room at Oswego
Summit, 215 Oswego Summit, Lake Oswego. See you there.

Portland French School, our landlord, has informed us that they will cease operation on May 31, 2011 and that any agreements that we had with them are terminated after that date. The announcement was sudden and unexpected.
This effectively means that we no longer have a regular place to meet on Sundays (or any other day, for that matter) after the end of this month.
We are currently pursuing several alternative options and will keep you updated on this page about ongoing developments in our search for a new, temporary meeting space.
